DWU men’s basketball to scrimmage at Sanford Pentagon

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team announced Wednesday that it will open its 2013 practice schedule with an intra-squad scrimmage at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The scrimmage will be free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

DWU men’s soccer team rebounds with win vs. Grace

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team rebounded from its worst loss of the season to shut out Grace University 2-0 Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

DWU (5-2-1) got two first-half goals from Mike Haight and Sam Roberts to jump on Grace early.

The Tigers play Presentation College at 3 p.m. today in Aberdeen.

Fitts ties for 1st; DWU takes 4th in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan sophomore Lauren Fitts tied for first at the NAIA National Preview Tournament Monday.

Fitts, a Brookings native, shot a 157 in the two-day tournament and tied with Wayland Baptist’s Natalie Ugalde. Ugalde won after a scorecard playoff.

Fitts was also named the the Great Plains Atletic Conference player of the week Wendesday.

The Tigers took fourth with a 674 and Bellevue University won the team title with a 657.

The Tigers host their annual DWU Palace City Classic Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Golf Course and Wild Oak Golf Club.

MTI rodeo team has success at Railtown USA

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Mitchell Technical Institute Mavericks rodeo team had seven contestants qualify for the finals Saturday at the Railtown USA College Rodeo in North Platte, Neb.

Chance Parr, a Mitchell native, took fifth in team roping with Blake Boysen, a Sioux Falls native, while Faith native Kenny Carmichael and Hartford native Evan Thyberg took sixth.

In saddle bronc, Jason Hapney and Tucker Whitney, of Iona, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tanner Cross, a Woonsocket native, won the first round of team roping with Newt Bruly, of SDSU, but failed to qualify for the finals.
