Amateur baseball roundup: Dimock/Emery edges Canova
EMERY -- At the plate and on the mound, Jared Schmidt powered the Dimock/Emery Raptors to a 3-1 amateur baseball victory over the Canova Gang on Thursday.
Schmidt earned the win, fanning six batters and allowing one earned run in the complete-game performance. He also recorded three hits, two RBIs and belted a solo home run in the first inning.
For Canova, Tim Gassman had two hits. He was also tagged with the loss, giving up two runs and striking out six batters in seven innings. Gassman also had two hits at the plate.
Dimock/Emery (9-9) hosts Mount Vernon in Emery on Sunday. Canova (8-2) hosts the Salem Cubs on July 3.Winner/Colome 3, Platte 0
PLATTE -- Winner/Colome didn’t score until the sixth inning, but 11 hits and three Platte errors were enough to get the win on Thursday in Sunshine League action.
Derek Graesser had a team-high three hits for Winner/Colome, while Dillon Lambley and Zach Harter each recorded two hits. J.J. Farmer struck out 12 during his complete-game shutout. Platte only had four hits and two walks against him.
For Platte, Michael Buitenbos gave up three earned runs on 11 hits in his complete-game effort. Riley Hoffman, Cole Nachtigal, Tait Sibbel and Buitenbos all had a hit.
Winner/Colome (13-2, 9-2 Sunshine League) hosts Parkston on Sunday in Winner. Platte (4-6, 4-4 Sunshine League) plays Corsica/Stickney on Sunday in Corsica.Plankinton 3, South Central 0
GREGORY -- Travis Gant struck out 17 batters to power the Plankinton Bankers to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball victory against South Central on Thursday.
Gant gave up just one hit in the complete-game performance. Offensively, Trevor Boyd had two hits and one RBI. Chris hill belted a solo home run, while Gant, Trevor Salmonson, Josh Geppert, Kyle Bruinsma, Tom Harris and Josh Engquist each had a hit.
For South Central, Paul Taggert had the lone hit.

WHITE LAKE -- A Ryan Smith grand slam highlighted Kimball/White Lake’s 20-hit performance on Thursday in Pony Hills League action.
Smith finished 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs. Wes Kroupa and Brian Zeman each had four hits, while Zeman also drove in two runs. Trent Wookey and Jordan Hanten, who had two RBIs, each had two hits. Zeman struck out six during his eight innings for Kimball/White Lake, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and three walks.
Matt Randall, Jeremie Herdman and Brant Winter all had two hits for Miller. Randall and Winter both had two RBIs, as well. Tarek Butterfield took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits in four innings.
Kimball/White Lake (3-5 Pony Hills League) plays at South Central on Sunday. Miller (5-6 Pony Hills League) plays at Four Corners in Hayes on Sunday.
