The Mitchell High School softball team split a doubleheader with Yankton on Tuesday. The Kernels took the first game 10-5, but they fell 5-4 in extra innings in the nightcap at Cadwell Sports Complex.
In Game One, Tori Misiaszek contributed at the plate and on the mound. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while tossing a complete game on the mound. Misiaszek allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out four.
Kate Nash led the team with four hits, including a two-run home run during a three-RBI performance. Hannah Sibson accounted for two of Mitchell's 13 hits. Sibson hit a triple in the win.
The Kernels only managed five hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Sibson stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in a pair of runs. Nash drove in two runs, as well.
Kierstyn Krcil suffered the loss as she allowed four runs (two earned) over four relief innings. Yankton recorded four hits against her and struck out once.
The Kernels (4-8) travel to Brandon Valley on Thursday.
