Amateur baseball roundup: Mallards punch ticket to state tourney
CHAMBERLAIN—Ryan Schoenhard's RBI single to left field in the eighth inning provided the winning difference for the Chamberlain Mallards Wednesday in a 9-8 win over South Central in a District 3B amateur baseball tournament elimination game.
The win sends the Mallards to the Class B state tournament as the final of four representatives from the Pony Hills League, joining Four Corners, Miller/Wessington and Plankinton.
The two-out hit scored Kyle Forester and broke an 8-all tie forced by the Storm's four-run rally in the top of the eighth. Zach Zimprich went the distance on the mound for the Mallards. Schoenhard also knocked in a run to cap a four-run sixth inning to put Chamberlain up 8-4.
Paul Taggart took the loss for South Central on the mound, pitching a complete game. The Storm left runners at second and third base to end the game.
The Mallards overcame six errors and outhit South Central 10-9. The Storm had five errors of their own.
Four Corners 12, Kimball/White Lake 6
CHAMBERLAIN—Four Corners downed Kimball/White Lake in a District 3B elimination game on Tuesday.
For Four Corners, Brad Hand had two doubles, two singles and drove in a run. Justin Lester added three singles and four RBIs, while Adam Kaus had two singles and two RBIs. Josh Davies earned the win, throwing seven innings, allowing two runs, scattering six hits and striking out six batters.
For the Nationals, Brian Zeman had three singles and an RBI. Jordan Hanten drove in two runs.
