Legion baseball roundup: Winner/Colome downs Gregory County
WINNER—The Winner/Colome Royals received hit from seven different players and knocked off Gregory County 12-2 in a Legion baseball contest on Monday.
Riley Calhoon, Ty Bolton, Jackson Kinzer, Carter Brickman and Dalton Baker all had two hits in the win. Kinzer, Brickman, Baker and Chase Dufek each drove in two runs. Levi McClanahan and Dufek each had a hit. Calvin Ringing Shield also drove in a run.
Bolton started and pitched two innings, giving up one hit and no runs. Kinzer and Brickman each pitched two innings in relief. Kinzer scattered three hits, gave up two earned runs and struck out two batters. Brickman gave up one hit, one earned run and struck out one batter.
For Gregory County, JJ Beck had two hits. Grant Thomas, Aaron Sundquist and Coy Detterman each had a hit. Ridge Oliver and Sundquist each drove in a run. Thomas started and pitching five innings, giving up 11 hits, nine runs (seven earned) and striking out one batter.
Tabor 7, Vermillion 5
VERMILLION—Mace Merkwan had three hits and belted a two-run homer to lift Tabor to a Legion baseball victory over Vermillion on Monday.
Merkwan drove in three runs and his home run in the second inning gave Tabor a 4-2 advantage.
Also for Tabor, Tanner VanDriel and Sam Caba each had two hits apiece. Caba drove in a run, as did Joey Slama and Christian Uecker. Beau Rothschadl, Colin Adams and Dom Pechous each had a hit. Slama earned the win. He pitched three innings of relief, gave up one hit, struck out two batters and gave up no runs.
