Amateur baseball roundup: Corsica-Stickney tops Mount Vernon in 10 innings

CORSICA—The Corsica-Stickney Horned Frogs edged the Mount Vernon Mustangs 5-4 in 10 innings of a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Friday.

In the bottom of the 10th, Logan Risse scored the game-winning run on a fielding error by the left fielder.

Luke Bamberg went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs. Adam Fink had one hit and one RBI. Aaron Groeneweg had two hits, while Risse, Dylanger Pierson and Jared Hermanek each had a hit.

Groeneweg earned the win, striking out eight batters, scattering five hits and allowing four runs (one earned) in 7 1/3 innings.

For Mount Vernon, Deric Denning mowed down 19 batters, scattered three hits and gave up two runs in 7 2/3 innings. Denning also had a hit.

Eric Denning added two hits, while Cam Deinert and Tate Deinert each a hit.

Corsica-Stickney (5-2, 3-2 Sunshine) hosts Winner/Colome on Sunday in Corsica. Mount Vernon (2-6, 1-5 Sunshine) hosts Wagner on Sunday.

Dimock-Emery 9, Wagner 1

EMERY—Phil Johnson struck out 13 batters and Jared Schmidt crushed a two-run homer to propel the Dimock-Emery Raptors to a Sunshine League amateur baseball victory over the Wagner Rockets on Thursday.

Johnson scattered four hits and gave up one earned run. Schmidt had two hits, as did Jason Schmidt, Gene Kitchens and Doug Sudbeck.

For Wagner, Derek Soukup had two hits, a double and an RBI. Drue Soukup took the loss for the Rockets.

Dimock-Emery (5-7, 1-4) plays at Platte on Sunday. Wagner (0-5, 0-5) hosts Mount Vernon on Sunday.

Kimball/White Lake 13, South Central 1

WHITE LAKE—Kimball/White Lake downed South Central 13-1 in seven innings during a Pony Hills amateur baseball game on Thursday.

For Kimball/White Lake, Brian Zeman earned the win for the Nationals. He struck out four batters, allowed one run, gave up four hits and struck out seven batters. Ryan Smith pitched two innings of relief, allowing one hit, striking out two batters and giving up zero runs. Offensively, Wes Kroupa had two doubles, one single and drove in two runs. Dylan Konechne added a hit and scored four runs.

For South Central, Paul Taggart had an RBI double. Mac Johnson took the loss.

Kimball/White Lake (2-2) plays at Four Corners on Sunday. South Central (1-3) hosts Chamberlain on Sunday.
