DWU softball team splits with Concordia
SEWARD, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team split a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader with Concordia University on Monday in Seward, Nebraska.
DWU won the first game 3-2 in 10 innings and dropped the second game 7-6 in eight innings.
In Game 1, a solo home run by Karly Severance forced extra innings, where Amber Budmark hit an RBI-double which scored Andrea Konz for the go-ahead run.
Sierra Haage pitched all 10 innings, allowing four hits and recording three strikeouts for the win.
In Game 2, DWU took a 6-3 lead after six innings thanks to a solo home run by Paige Kinley and a two-run double by Stephanie Gabel. Concordia rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and picked up the win in extra innings.
Alyson VanderPol recorded four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
The Tigers (11-21, 7-7 GPAC) host Hastings College at 3 p.m. Wednesday at McWhirter Field in Mitchell.
