Girls playoff basketball roundup: Ethan, Hanson advance to Round of 16
HURON — Karly Gustafson and Cameryn Logan powered Ethan to a Region 4B semifinal victory over Howard on Thursday. The Rustlers will now compete in the Round of 16 on March 1.
Ethan (20-2): Gustafson had 19 points and eight rebounds, while Logan added 14 points and four boards. Jessica Bartscher tossed in eight points for Ethan, which outrebounded Howard (24-19) and shot 62 percent from the field.
Howard (13-9): Hilary Albrecht paced the Tigers with nine points, while Citori Rentz added seven points.

Hanson 61, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 32
HURON — Hanson used a balanced scoring attack to knock off Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the Region 4B semifinals on Thursday. Hanson advances to the Round of 16 state-qualifying game on March 1.
Hanson (19-3): Heather Kayser paced Hanson with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Jada Campbell added 12 points, while Brooke Slaba had nine points. Brooke Weber stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Hanson drilled nine 3-pointers and outrebounded SCW, 35-26.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (13-9): Tesa Jensen led SCW with nine points, while Alissa Ball scored eight points.

TRIPP — Four players scored in double figures to power Tripp-Delmont/Armour to a Region 6B quarterfinal game on Thursday.
TDA (18-3): Brooklyn Brouwer paced the Nighthawks with 23 points and five steals. Kianna Payer added 17 points, while Mattilynn Reiner had 13 points and seven assists. Erica Koster scored 11 points. Up next: The Nighthawks will play Corsica-Stickney at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Cimpl Arena in Yankton for a trip to the Round of 16 state qualifier.

CORSICA — Corsica-Stickney advanced in the Region 6B girls basketball tournament with a 10-point victory over Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday.
Corsica-Stickney (19-3): Avery Broughton paced the Jaguars with 21 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots. Morgan DeLange had 11 points, while Courtney Menning recorded eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Alexis Tilton dished out five assists. Up next: Corsica-Stickney plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Cimpl Arena in Yankton for a trip to the Round of 16.

SALEM — McCook Central/Montrose picked up a home win Thursday in the Region 5A , sealing a spot in the Class A state-qualifying Round of 16 on March 1.
MCM (19-2): Morgan Koepsell had a triple-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks for the Fighting Cougars, who advance to the state-qualifying round for a second straight year. Jacy Pulse scored 16 points and had five rebounds, as MCM shot 48 percent in the win and had a 52-22 edge in rebounds.
MVP (9-13): Camie Walz scored 13 points and Hailey Walz added 10 points.

PARKER — Wagner advanced to the Round of 16 with a Region 5A semifinal victory over Parker on Thursday. The Red Raiders will play in the Round of 16 game on March 1.
Wagner (8-14): Kayli Kocer paced the Red Raiders with 20 points and six rebounds. Janae Patterson added nine points and nine rebounds.
Parker (11-11): Grace Leberman scored 11 points and collected eight rebounds. Raelin Jurgens had a monster game with eight points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Winner (19-2): Morgan Hammerbeck paced Winner with 19 points and eight rebounds. Maggie LaCompte added 12 points, while Gabriel Kocer and Abby Marts scored eight points apiece. Up next: Winner plays at Pine Ridge at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Round of 16 qualifier.

With the Yankton School District dismissing early Thursday, that bumped back the schedule for the Region 5B girls basketball semifinals, moving those games to today.
Irene-Wakonda will take on Bridgewater-Emery at 6 p.m., while Freeman and Canistota will play at 7:30 p.m. at the Summit Center.
In Region 6B, Kimball/White Lake will play Burke/South Central at 7 p.m. today in Burke. The winner will take on Avon at 2 p.m. Saturday in Yankton, as the Pirates defeated Scotland 51-25 on Thursday.
