Coyote men blitz Fort Wayne, 86-69
VERMILLION — A 22-point halftime lead was more than enough for the University of South Dakota men's basketball team Thursday, as the Coyotes pounded Fort Wayne 86-69 in Summit League play.
Five Coyotes were in double figures scoring, led by 17 points each from Triston Simpson and Matt Mooney. Nick Fuller scored 14 points and Tyler Hagedorn and Tyler Peterson each scored 10 for the Coyotes (21-6, 9-2 Summit). Mooney had nine assists, while Hagedorn had a team-high nine rebounds for USD, which never trailed in the game.
The Coyotes went to work in the paint, scoring 58 points inside, shooting nearly 65 percent in the first half and 61 percent for the game.
Fort Wayne had a game-high 23 points from Bryson Scott and 18 points and 12 rebounds from John Konchar but the Mastodons (16-11, 5-5 Summit) never could overcome a 27 percent shooting first half.
USD hosts Peru State at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Coyotes' final non-conference game of the season.
