Strong start carries MCS girls over JVC

A quick start helped propel the Mitchell Christian girls basketball team to its second win in as many days on Tuesday when the Golden Eagles downed James Valley Christian 43-27.

MCS jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and led 23-8 at halftime.

"We came out with good defensive intensity and that set the tone for us in the game," MCS coach Chris Nemec said. "It's always nice to have a good start and get good energy."

Seven different Golden Eagles scored in the contest with Anna Cooper pouring in a team-high 10 points. Charlotte Haag added nine points and Staci Wolbrink had eight points.

"The girls have been working really hard and they deserve this," Nemec said about the back-to-back wins. "We want to close out this season well and get some momentum for regions."

For JVC, Avery Shumaker scored nine points.

MCS plays Gayville-Volin on Thursday in Gayville, while JVC plays Estelline on Saturday in Huron.
