Mitchell places 3rd at Yankton Invite

YANKTON—The Mitchell wrestling team finished third at the Yankton Invitational on Saturday.

The Kernels finished with 126.5 points, while Rapid City Stevens won the event with 222.5 points and Pierre placed second with 126.5 points.

Briggs Havlik was Mitchell's best finisher. The senior placed second in the 160-pound division and lost to Pierre's Austin Senger by a 3-1 decision in the title match. Havlik edged Madison's Jarred Hodges (5-3) in the semifinal bout.

Kyler Bauder (120 pounds) and Carter Max (182) placed fourth in their respective weight classes, while Beau Foote (220) finished fifth.

Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon placed eighth at the tournament. Dom Pechous (152) placed first and Kaleb Crownover (138) finished second. Josh Crownover (160) took fourth place.

Wagner's K.J. St. Pierre (195) placed first and defeated Pierre's Gage Gehring by a 6-5 score in an ultimate tie-breaker. Wagner's Dawson Lensing (285) and Jace Johnson (220) placed second and third, respectively.

Mitchell competes in the Brandon Valley Triangular against the Lynx and Watertown on Thursday.
