Big second half carries Arrows over Kernel girls

WATERTOWN — Watertown outscored Mitchell 38-20 in the second half to pick up its first victory of the season on Friday in Watertown.

In the Eastern South Dakota Conference matchup, the Arrows scored 17 points in the third quarter and 21 points in the fourth quarter. Mitchell led 20-13 at halftime.

Leading the way for the Arrows was Megan Fannin, who scored 14 points, while Anni Cummings added 12 points and Jackie Tetzlaff chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

For the Kernels, Mackenzie Miller scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Taylor Factor chipped in five points, four steals and four rebounds, while Tori Misiaszek and Tess Limberg each added four points. Mitchell lost the rebounding battle 25-15 and fell to 2-3 on the season.

The Kernels will face Harrisburg on Jan. 9 in Harrisburg, while Watertown takes on Harrisburg today in Harrisburg.
