Bray's 41 points carries Tiger women

MADISON — Against in-state rival Dakota State University, Amber Bray put together a career night.

The 6-foot-1 senior forward scored 41 points, hitting 8-of-11 3-pointers, to power the No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team past DSU 95-74 on Tuesday in Madison. Bray went 13-of-19 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while adding six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

"Amber had a hot hand and shot the ball real well," DWU head coach Jason Christensen said. "She was able to get a lot of good looks and she knocked them down."

DWU held a 19-15 lead after the first quarter and built a 10-point lead by halftime 41-31. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 44-31 and forced the Trojans into 20 turnovers. DWU's starting point guard Rylie Osthus missed the game because of an illness.

"The first half, we were a little bit sluggish," said Christensen, noting the team was adjusting to not having Osthus. "We were a little out of sync offensively, but we played a lot better in the second half."

In second half, the Tigers scored outscored the Trojans 54-43, scoring 27 points in each quarter. Sarah Carr recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, while Chesney Nagel tossed in 11 points and dished out nine assists for the Tigers, who improve to 12-2.

"Sarah played well. She got on the boards and finished in the paint," Christensen said. "She did a lot of good things."

For Dakota State (5-11), four players finished in double figures. Chamberlain native Kennedy Wagner led the Trojans with 15 points, while Britley Plautz added 14 points and Lindsey Vogl and Jamie Tebben each chipped in 11 points.

DWU plays Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) on Dec. 29 in Phoenix, Arizona.
