Area wrestling roundup: KWLPG takes second at Titan Invite

PLANKINTON — The Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes wrestling team took second place at the Titan Invitational on Saturday in Plankinton.

Redfield Area won the 16-team tournament with 190 points, while KWLPG finished with 167 points. McCook Central/Montrose placed third (166 points), Burke/Gregory took fourth (163.5), Marion/Freeman finished ninth (65) and the hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney finished 12th (36).

Carter Lenz (98 pounds) placed first for KWLPG, while Grayson Hanson (113), Wyatt Talbott (120), Ty Namanny (160), Kezery LeBeau (182) and Tyler Resick (195) each took second place.

Jeremiah Beck (182) and Jackson Eklund (132) each finished first for B/G, while MCM's Paul Lauck (145) and Blake Gessner (160) placed first. For MVPCS, Jesse Hastings (220) took first and Marion/Freeman's Dalton Bodewitz won at 138-pounds.

Howard finishes fourth, Chamberlain fifth at Madison Invite

At the 19-team Madison Invite, the Howard wrestling team took fourth place with 130 points, while Chamberlain placed fifth with 125 points on Saturday.

Winning titles for the Tigers were E.J. Leetch, who bested Wagner's K.J. St. Pierre 5-4 in the 195-pound championship match. For Chamberlain, Max Donovan (113), Collin Powell (120) and Nash Hutmacher (285) each won their weight classes. Hutmacher, last year's Class A state champion, improved to 13-0 on the season with all wins coming by pinfall.

Two Warriors win titles in Valentine

VALENTINE, Neb. — Winner placed fourth out of 17 teams with 178 points at the Valentine Invite on Saturday in Valentine, Nebraska. Twelve Warriors placed at the tournament with Atlas Willuweit (120 pounds) and Wyatt Turnquist (126) each winning titles.

Parkston takes fifth at EPJ Invite

ELK POINT — The Parkston wrestling team placed fifth with a 131 points, while the Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon team finished seventh with 86 points at the Elk Point-Jefferson Invite on Saturday in Elk Point.

Riley Weber (106 pounds) and Brady Schoenfelder (195) each finished second, while Cordell Murtha (126), Rocky Berg (132) and Brayden Leischner (220) each placed third. BHSA had six wrestlers place, led by Jordan Reub's third-place finish at 113 pounds.

Wessington Springs/Woonsocket finishes eighth, Lyman 10th at Hot Springs tourney

HOT SPRINGS — Seven Wessington Springs/Woonsocket grapplers placed as the team finished eighth at the 19-team Hot Springs Invite on Saturday in Hot Springs. Seth Tebay (152 pounds) and John Witte (182) each finished fourth. Lyman took 10th place with six kids placing at the tournament.
