MCS girls outlast Wessington Springs

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Outscoring Wessington Springs 15-10 in the fourth quarter, Mitchell Christian picked up its second win of the season in prep girls basketball action on Saturday in Wessington Springs.

The Golden Eagles led 25-24 after three quarters before pulling away for the win. Jocelyn Baas led the team with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Anna Cooper added nine points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. MCS outrebounded Wessington Springs 39-34.

"It was a good game and the girls competed well," MCS head coach Chris Nemec said. "We did a better job rebounding and that helped us."

For the Spartans (0-3), Grace Gran poured in a game-high 17 points, while Cadee Schelske added five points and nine rebounds in the loss. The Spartans committed 29 turnovers, compared to 26 for the Golden Eagles.

MCS takes on Menno on Jan. 4 in Menno, while Wessington Springs faces Corsica-Stickney today in Corsica.

"It'll be nice to have a break and work on the some things we need to work on," Nemec said. "We can practice and hone in on the things we've noticed in the first few games."
