Area wrestling roundup: Red Raiders open with dual win

WAGNER — Wagner picked up a 49-25 dual wrestling victory over rival Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon Thursday to open the high school season.

The dual played out in waves, with Wagner building a 25-0 lead, only for BHSA to rally with 25 straight team points of its own. Wagner received forfeits at 182 and 195 pounds, followed by pins from Jace Johnson (220) and Dawson Lensing (285) to seal the dual.

Bradyn Lhotak (113), Lance Soukup (120) and Nolan Dvorak (132) each had pins, with Calvin McBride winning by major decision at 126 pounds for Wagner. For BHSA, Riley Hellmann (152) and Josh Crownover (160) each had pins and Kaleb Crownover (138) had a major decision victory.

Both teams will wrestle Saturday in tournaments, with Wagner at Kimball and BHSA at Dell Rapids.

Lyman sweeps two duals

PRESHO — The Lyman wrestling team got off to a strong start Thursday, sweeping both of its duals in a home triangular with Stanley County and Todd County. The Raiders edged the Buffaloes 36-34 and took down Todd County 40-24.

Lyman picked up three early pins against Stanley County to break to an early lead. Bryson Muirhead (106), Shilo Mowry (113) and Tristan Penny (120) each recorded falls in less than three minutes. Jack Miller added a pin at 160 pounds to help seal the match late.

The Raiders took down the Falcons and were aided by three early forfeits and four in all. Jacob Hoffer scored a 10-1 major decision for Lyman at 145 pounds and Blake Brodercht (160) and Jaedon Biggers (285) each recorded pins.

Lyman competes at the Stanley County Invite Saturday in Fort Pierre.
