State volleyball roundup: SFC fends off Dakota Valley for Class A title

RAPID CITY — Top-seeded Sioux Falls Christian claimed its seventh Class A state volleyball title since 2010, outlasting second-seeded Dakota Valley in five sets on Saturday in Rapid City. Set scores were 25-13, 19-25, 19-25, 25-15 and 15-13.

Ellie Voss led the Chargers with 22 kills, while Kylee Van Egdon chipped in 17 kills, one ace and 15 digs and Samantha Fykstra totalled 50 assists and 10 digs. For Dakota Valley, Meredith Lammers recorded 17 kills and 12 digs and Elizabeth Lammers added 10 kills and 16 digs.

Madison 3, Belle Fourche 0: Madison earned third place in Class A by beating Belle Fourche 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 on Saturday. Olivia Rud led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, while Sierra Ward tallied 14 kills to lead Belle Fourche.

Miller 3, Parker 2: Kadye Fernholz recorded 26 kills as Miller outlasted Parker 3-2 in the seventh-place match in Class A. Set scores were 17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 16-14.

Vonna Gail Schlechter added 15 kills, while Parker was led by Hannah Viet's 22 kills.

Class AA

Harrisburg 3, Rapid City Stevens 1: Harrisburg downed Rapid City Stevens 3-1 to win its second straight Class AA state title on Saturday in Rapid City. Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-15. Madison Wassink led the Tigers with 23 kills.

Washington 3, Watertown 2: Washington won its second five-set match of the Class AA tournament on Saturday, topping Watertown 25-18, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-6 to claim third place. Sydni Schetnan led the Warriors with 16 kills, while McKenzie Buisker recorded 15 kills for Watertown.

Huron 3, Aberdeen 0: Holle Niehus paced Huron with 21 kills and 10 digs as the Tigers took down Aberdeen Central 26-24, 25-18 and 25-18 for fifth place in Class AA. Brooklyn Kusler led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills in the loss.

Class B

Northwestern 3, Warner 1: Two Class B volleyball powerhouses separated by 13 miles met in the Class B championship as Northwestern was able to down Warner 3-1 in a game setup by the new Round of 16 playoff format. Set scores were 25-17, 23-25, 25-20 and 28-26. Caitlyn Fischbach led the Wildcats with 19 kills, while Laurie Rogers totalled 22 kills for the Monarchs in the loss.

Chester Area 3, Herreid/Selby Area 1: Chester Area outlasted Herreid/Sebly Area 23-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 27-25 in the third-place match on Saturday. Dakota Alfson led Chester Area with 21 kills, while Charlie Tisdall recorded a match-high 31 kills for Herreid/Selby Area.

Deubrook Area 3, Faith 1: Shaylee DeBeer led Deubrook Area with 14 kills, 15 assists, 15 digs and four aces to push the Dolphins past Faith 25-22, 25-14, 21-25 and 25-16 in the seventh-place match.
