Jackrabbit men top UC Irvine for first win
BROOKINGS — The South Dakota State men's basketball team outscored UC Irvine 34-23 in the second half to break a halftime deadlock and earn a 65-54 victory in the team's season opener on Friday at Front Arena in Brookings.
David Jenkins Jr. scored a game-high 16 points for SDSU, going 4-of-8 from behind the arc, while Reed Tellinghuisen and Mike Daum each added 12 points. Daum went 3-of-11 from the field and added six rebounds. Tevin King added nine points and Skyler Flatten had six points as the Jackrabbits went 17-of-57 from the field for 30 percent shooting.
For UC Irvine, Elston Jones had a team-high 14 points coming off the bench while Jonathan Galloway added 13 points.
SDSU (1-0) hosts the University of Mary at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Brookings.
