SDSU women cruise in opener

BROOKINGS — A 31-4 third quarter powered a 58-point second half for the South Dakota State University women's basketball team, which pounded New Jersey Tech 92-48 in the season opener Friday at Frost Arena.

Mitchell native Macy Miller had a game-high 21 points in 20 minutes of play, shooting 9-of-12. Miller was one of five Jacks in double figures, including Chynna Stevens with 15 and Madison Guebert and Myah Selland each with 12 points.

Selland, a freshman from Letcher making her collegiate debut, started the game and nearly posted a triple-double. She finished with nine assists and eight rebounds to go with the 12-point effort. Plankinton native Megan Bultsma had three points in the victory.

SDSU (1-0) is at George Washington University for a 1 p.m. game Sunday in Washington, D.C.
