Tiger women score 101 in win over Southwestern

WINFIELD, Kan. — Shooting 57 percent from the field, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team routed Southwestern 101-66 in a game on Friday in Winfield, Kansas.

Jessica Mieras and Kynedi Cheeseman each scored 17 points to lead the No. 8-ranked Tigers, while Ashley Bray had 13 points, Rylie Osthus added 12 points and Mikaela Stofferahn had 11 points. Amber Bray, Sarah Carr and Madison Mathews each chipped in nine points.

DWU went 10-of-17 from behind the arc, scored 50 points in the paint and won the rebounding battle 39-29. The win is the second time in DWU's first four games the Tigers have surpassed 100 points.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 25-8 lead after the first quarter and cruised from there taking a 45-27 lead at halftime. DWU outscored Southwestern 33-21 in the third quarter and built a 30-point lead.

Defensively, the Tigers forced 21 Southwestern turnovers and held the Moundbuilders to 42 percent shooting from the field. DWU recorded 15 steals and three blocks.

DWU (4-0) will have a tough test today, facing No. 16-ranked Friends (Kan.) at 5 p.m. in Winfield, Kansas.
