Catching up with former area athletes: Flitner seeing time for Carleton

Lyman graduate and Presho native Anna Flitner has played in all 15 matches for the Carleton College volleyball team.

The freshman outside hitter has recorded 144 digs, 19 aces, 17 kills and 16 assists for the 5-10 Knights, who are an NCAA Division III school from Northfield, Minnesota.

Carleton hosts Martin Luther College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday.

Weber, Augie place 2nd at Central Missouri Invite

Parkston graduate Sydney Weber helped the Augustana University women's golf team place second at the 19-team Central Missouri Invite in Warrensburg, Missouri, on Monday and Tuesday.

Augie shot a 47-over-par (306-309) and finished two strokes behind of Arkansas Tech (306-308). Weber had Augie's third-best individual score and tied for 35th overall with a 20-over-par 162 (77-85).

The Vikings conclude their fall season at the Lindenwood Invite on Oct. 16-17 in St. Charles, Missouri.

Cooney, Cougars compete at Holiday Inn Express Classic

J.J. Cooney and the University of Sioux Falls men's golf team wrapped up the Holiday Inn Express Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Tuesday, finishing tied for 17th.

Cooney, a sophomore from Pickstown, carded a two-over 73 in the first round and then had a four-over 75 as the golfers played 36 holes on Monday. Cooney shot a 75 in his final round on Tuesday. He moved up six spots on the individual leaderboard and into the top 25 with his final round, finishing at 223 (73-75-75), 10 strokes over par and tied for 25th.

The Cougars wrap up their fall schedule at the Missouri Southern State Invitational at the Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma, on Oct. 23-24.
