District 5B amateur tournament starts Thursday in Parkston

PARKSTON — The District 5B amateur baseball tournament starts Thursday at The Pond in Parkston, with six of the eight Sunshine League teams in line for a trip to the Class B state tournament.

Top seed Alexandria opens the tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday taking on Wagner, followed by second-seeded Winner/Colome battling Platte at 8 p.m. On Friday, No. 4 Parkston will face fifth-seeded Mount Vernon at 6 p.m., followed by Dimock/Emery and Corsica/Stickney in a game of No. 3 and No. 6 seeds, respectively.

The semifinal round will be Sunday, followed by the elimination round on July 25. The remaining six teams at that point will all advance to the state tournament but two placement games will be played July 27 to determine district representation slots. The district championship game will be at 7:30 p.m. July 28.

July 23 — Semifinals

G5: G1 winner vs. G3 winner, 5 p.m.

G6: G2 winner vs. G4 winner, 7 p.m.

July 25 — Elimination games

G7: G1 loser vs. G3 loser, 6 p.m.

G8: G2 loser vs. G4 loser, 8 p.m.

July 27

G9: G7 winner vs. G6 loser, 6 p.m. (both teams to state)

G10: G8 winner vs. G5 loser, 8 p.m. (both teams to state)

July 28 — Championship

G11: Semifinal winners, 7:30 p.m. (both teams to state)
