Legion baseball roundup: Platte-Geddes advances to Region 5B title game

A seven-run third inning lifted Platte-Geddes 115 & 56 to a 12-4 win over Tabor in the Region 5B semifinals on Saturday in Platte. Platte-Geddes will play Parkston in the title game at 5 p.m. on Sunday in Platte.

Seth Kirsch powered Platte-Geddes at the plate. He had two hits and drove in five runs. Kirsch drove in a pair of run as part of the seven runs in the third inning.

Tiegen Priebe and Trevor Sprik both had two hits in the win. Riley Hoffman, Kory Peters, Payton Foxley, Cole Nachtigal and Jarod Severson all added hits. Hoffman, Priebe, Peters and Severson also knocked in runs.

Dylan Mohnen earned the win. He pitched seven innings, allowing four runs, nine hits, and struck out seven batters.

Colin Adams had a solo home run and a triple for Tabor. Chase Kortan and Sam Caba both had two hits. Kortan, Tanner VanDriel and Joey Slama each drove in a run. Cole Uecker and Bryce Scieszinski both added hits.

Uecker took the loss for Tabor. He tossed two innings, allowing eight runs, seven hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Platte-Geddes 15, Corsica/Stickney 7

Platte-Geddes Post 115 & 56 rallied for a 15-7 win over Corsica/Stickney in the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament on Saturday in Platte.

Corsica/Stickney led 5-2 after three innings, but Platte-Geddes scored at least three runs in the last four innings to secure victory.

Xavier Marshall got the win for Platte-Geddes. He scattered 10 hits, gave up seven runs (six earned) and struck out three batters in the complete game performance.

He received plenty of run support. Hoffman and Severson both drove in three runs. They both had three hits. Chandler Fredericksen had two RBI's in the win. Priebe, Kirsch and Sprik also collected hits. Priebe and Kirsch both drove in a run apiece.

Blake Moke powered Corsica/Stickney. He went 3-for-4, crushed two home runs and knocked in five runs. Bryce Plamp had three hits, while Landon Bruinsma added two hits. Cordell Menning and Austin Graves each had a hit.

McCook/Miner advances to Region 5B title game

HUMBOLDT—McCook/Miner topped Baltic 8-4 late Friday and will play Humboldt/Hartford in the Region 5B Legion title game on Sunday in Humboldt.

McCook/Miner was out-hit 12-4, but four runs in the second inning and three in the third propelled it to the victory.

Kendall Gassman earned the win, while also going 2-for-3 and knocking in a run. He threw three innings, gave up zero runs, five hits, struck out three batters and walked no batters.

Colton Plagmann and Cade Schmitt both had hits in the win. Schmitt, Kyle Tuschen and Collin Cleveland all drove in runs.

Humboldt/Hartford 11, Colton 1

Humboldt/Hartford used a seven-run fifth inning to fuel an 11-1 win over Colton in the Region 5B Legion tournament on Saturday in Humboldt.

Devlin Rue and Joseph Hanisch both drove in a pair of runs in the win. Hanisch and Brandon McKnight both had two hits. Nic Stark and Aaron Mallinger had doubles. Justin Sebert, Nate Masloski, Zane Jira and Devin Garry all had singles. Tyler Renken earned the win on the mound. He struck out eight batters, scattered four hits and allowed one run (unearned) in six innings.

Logan Mathieu led Colton with two hits.

Humboldt/Hartford 26, Baltic 0

Humboldt/Hartford blanked Baltic 26-0 to advance to the Region 5B title tilt.

Humboldt/Hartford exploded for 11 runs in the second inning, while also scoring seven in the third and five in the fourth.

Hanisch and Renken both smacked home runs in the victory. Hanisch went 4-for-4 and knocked in five runs. Mallinger had four RBI's, had two hits and scored four runs. Jory Montis also had four RBI's, scored two twice and had two hits.
