Alexandria tops Mudcats, 3-1

ALEXANDRIA—There were plenty of hits but few runs as Alexandria picked up a 3-1 win over Parkston in a Sunshine League amateur baseball contest Thursday.

Alexandria had an 11-6 advantage in hits but the Angels scored one run each in the first, third and seventh innings.

Tyson Gau had a 3-for-4 game at the plate for Alexandria, with two runs scored and a home run in the first inning. Jordan Gau added two hits and Gau and Kye Winter each had an RBI.

Tyson Gau earned the win for the Angels, throwing seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run and striking out nine. Winter picked up the two-inning save without allowing a hit and striking out two.

For Parkston, Connor Merriam and Dan Bonte each had two hits. William Lutjen added an RBI single. Brady Nolz threw seven innings, allowing 11 hits and three earned runs and striking out five. Lutjen threw a scoreless eighth inning for the 'Cats.

Alexandria (4-0) hosts Platte at 5 p.m. Sunday. Parkston (7-2) plays at Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. Sunday.
