DWU splits GPAC twin bill
The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team split a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader with Doane University on Thursday at Dr. McWhirter Field. The Tigers won the first game 3-0 and lost game two 12-1.
DWU's Amber Budmark went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Lorissa Loeppky finished 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one. Sierra Haage picked up the win on the mound after pitching seven innings and striking out a batter, allowing five hits and walking two.
In game two, DWU gave up seven runs in the first inning. Doane put up five runs in the next four innings as the game ended due to run rule.
DWU's Alize Martinez went 1-for-3 with a run. Budmark, Haage and Loeppky each finished 1-for-2. Loeppky took the loss after pitching an inning, allowing five earned runs off five hits.
The Tigers (17-28, 7-7 GPAC) will play Midland University at noon on Sunday in another GPAC doubleheader in Fremont, Nebraska.
