Mitchell nearing decision for boys basketball position
Mitchell High School Activities Director Cory Aadland said 11 applicants applied for the boys basketball position and it's now been narrowed down to "a few" finalists.
The position has been open since early March, but Aadland is still waiting for the right fit before he makes a decision.
"I have been happy with the quality of candidates that we had," Aadland said. "I know everyone is eager to kind of know who it is going to be, but I am not looking to hire someone right now. I am trying to find the right guy at the right time. We will take our time. It is a big decision and it is something we are not going to rush into and we want to make sure we take our time and make the right decision."
Aadland did not want to name the finalists, out of respect for the candidates and their current employers. He anticipates making a final decision within the next two weeks.
"We are trying to work through some of the details and trying to get everything put together," said Aadland, who added more than coaching basketball comes into play for the position.
"We are not just hiring a basketball coach," he added. "There are other aspects to it in some cases. We are trying to find the right fit of teaching position and coaching and those things together."
Former coach Erik Skoglund resigned from the position on March 3. Skoglund has since been named the head coach at Spearfish.
