Kyle Petty charity motorcycle ride to visit Mitchell in May
Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty will be bringing his Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America motorcycle event to Mitchell in May.
The 2,400-mile ride will stop in Mitchell on May 18, the fifth day of the week-long trip which will begin in Portland, Ore., and conclude in Milwaukee. Additional route information will be announced at a later date and events are planned for each overnight stop, which will include Mitchell.
Riders will come from Deadwood on May 17 to Mitchell, and riders will leave Mitchell on May 18 and drive to Minneapolis. This year, about 200 participants are expected, with Petty leading the way.
Celebrities will also participate in the ride, including NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty and legendary racer Donnie Allison, Heisman Trophy winners Herschel Walker and George Rogers and Harley-Davidson President Bill Davidson.
The event benefits Victory Junction, a camp which was founded by Petty in Randleman, N.C., and provides life-changing experiences for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
