Amateur roundup: Corsica/Stickney blanks Mount Vernon 11-0

MOUNT VERNON -- Kris Menning pitched a scoreless six innings with nine strikeouts to lead Corsica/Stickney over Mount Vernon 11-0 in a Sunshine League game Thursday in Mount Vernon.

Luke Bamberg went 2-for-4 with two triples and five RBIs and Menning added two hits with an RBI to lead Corsica/Stickney. Steven Blom added two hits and RBI.

Taking the loss on the mound for Mount Vernon was Chase Hetland, who pitched three innings, giving up nine runs and striking out four.

Corsica/Stickney (11-8, 8-7 SL) plays in the district tournament next weekend in Parkston.

Plankinton 15, Armour 0

PLANKINTON -- Travis Gant struck out 10 in a five-inning game as Plankinton beat Armour 15-0 Thursday in Plankinton.

Chris Hill had a double and two RBIs for Plankinton. Jeremey Nedved added three RBIs and Kyle Bruinsma went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Plankinton (13-12, 7-5 PH) plays Tripp/Delmont at 7:30 p.m. today in Plankinton.

Parkston Mudcats 4, Mitchell Mad Dogs 0

PARKSTON -- The Parkston Mudcats beat the Mitchell Mad Dogs 4-0 in a Sunshine League game Thursday in Parkston.

Luke Tiesler earned the win for the No. 3 Parkston Mudcats, pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing no runs off four hits. Spencer Freudenthal went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Jeff Fish added a triple to lead the Mudcats.

Taking the loss for Mitchell was Nick Pecha, who pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs off two hits and striking out four.

Nick Tadlock and Sam Schumacher both went 2-for-4 to lead Mitchell.

Parkston (27-4, 12-3 SL) plays Canova at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Parkston. Mitchell plays the Sioux Falls Saints at 5 p.m. July 27 in Sioux Falls.

Alexandria 7, Tripp/Delmont 1

ALEXANDRIA -- The top-ranked Alexandria Angles beat Tripp/Delmont 7-1 in a Sunshine League game Thursday in Alexandria.

Cory Marek earned the win for Alexandria, pitching a complete game, giving up three hits and striking out 15. Jordan Gau went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Cole Wenande went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Alexandria.

Tyler Payer took the loss for Tripp/Delmont, giving up seven runs off 11 hits and striking out three in eight innings. Payer also had two hits to lead Tripp/Delmont.

Alexandria (19-2, 14-1 SL) plays Redfield at 6 p.m. on Sunday in Alexandria. Tripp-Delmont plays in the district tournament next weekend in Parkston.

Dimock/Emery 11, Platte 3

EMERY -- Dimock/Emery finished its Sunshine League regular season with a 11-4 record after topping Platte 11-3 Thursday.

Phil Johnson was the winning pitcher, giving up three runs, two earned, and striking out nine in seven innings. Hayden Kuiper suffered the loss on mound, giving up nine runs in seven innings.

Dimock/Emery's Jared Schmidt had two hits and scored three runs, while Josh Engquist added two hits, a double and two RBIs for the Raptors, who play a district tournament game at 8 p.m. July 25 in Parkston.

Keith Cutler and Jordan Johnson each recorded two hits for Platte.

The Raptors (22-7, 11-4 SL) play Wynot (Neb.) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Wynot and the Redfield Pheasants at 4 p.m. Sunday in Alexandria.

Chamberlain 9, Kimball/White Lake 7

WHITE LAKE -- Chamberlain beat Kimball/White Lake 9-7 in a Pony Hills League game Thursday in White Lake.

Ryan Randall earned the win on the mound for Chamberlain. Taking the loss for Kimball/White Lake was Brian Zeman, who pitched all nine innings.

Matt Randall had four hits and Trent Wookey and Dylan Konechne each added three to lead Kimball/White Lake.

Kimball/White Lake (5-10, 3-8 PH) plays Chamberlain at 7 p.m. Sunday in Chamberlain.

Wessington Springs 2, Miller 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Tyler Waddle recorded 16 strikeouts to lead Wessington Springs over Miller 2-0 in a Pony Hills League game Thursday in Wessington Springs.

Waddle pitched nine innings, giving up no runs off four hits. Zach Cranston and Logan Kopfmann each added two hits to lead Wessington Springs.

Taking the loss on the mound for Casey Schlecter, who pitched a complete game, allowing two runs off seven hits and striking out five.

Wessington Springs (10-6, 9-1 PH) plays Four Corners at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
