Mudcats, Killer Tomatoes pick up Sunshine League wins

PARKSTON -- Dan Bonte drove in the game-winning run for the No. 1 Parkston Mudcats in a 3-2 win over No. 4 Dimock/Emery Friday at The Pond in Parkston.

The Mudcats led 2-0 early after Spencer Freudenthal hit an RBI double in the second inning and scored later in the inning on an RBI single from Tyler Nolz.

After the Raptors tied the score, Bonte came through with an RBI single in the seventh inning to break the tie and the Mudcats held on the for the Sunshine League victory.

Tom Murtha picked up the win on the mound for Parkston. He threw eight innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and struck out seven.

Trevor Freudenthal and Bonte each finished with two hits for the Mudcats.

Phil Johnson took the loss for the Raptors. He pitched eight innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and struck out two.

The Mudcats (24-2, 9-2 SL) play Miller at 3 p.m. Sunday in Parkston.

Platte 8, Corsica/Stickney 7

PLATTE -- The Platte Killer Tomatoes topped the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs 8-7 in Sunshine League action Friday in Platte.

Audie Kuipers pitched the complete game and got the win for Platte. He threw nine innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and struck out three.

Keith Cutler finished with three hits, while Jordan Johnson and Kuipers each added two hits for Platte.

Josh Vuerink led the Horned Frogs with two hits.

Platte (7-5, 5-5 SL) and Corsica/Stickney matchup again at 7 p.m. Sunday in Corsica.
