Mudcats win two, D/E’s Johnson throws no-hitter against Platte

PARKSTON — The Parkston Mudcats took two games against Sunshine League opponents Sunday in Parkston.

The Mudcats topped Mount Vernon 12-1 in seven innings in the first game. Luke Tiesler got the win on the mound for Parkston, going all seven innings. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out six.

Trevor Freudenthal was 3-for-3 to lead the Mudcats, including a double and three RBIs. Spencer Freudenthal added two hits, including a double and three RBIs.

Deric Denning picked up the lone RBI for the Cardinals.

In the second game against the Parkston Bullheads, the Mudcats won 10-4. Trevor Freudenthal again paced the Mudcat lineup with three hits, including a home run and two doubles. He added three RBIs.

Jeff Harris and Jeff Heisinger each added three hits in the win, while Dan Bonte finished with three RBIs.

Tim Rands connected on a home run for the Bullheads in the loss.

The Mudcats (17-2, 6-2 Sunshine League) play league rival Alexandria at 8 p.m. Thursday in Parkston.

Dimock/Emery 15, Platte 0

PLATTE — Phil Johnson threw a seven-inning no-hitter to lead Dimock/Emery over Platte 15-0 in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game Sunday.

Johnson tossed all seven innings, giving up one walk and striking out five for the Raptors. He added a two-run home run.

Jason Schmidt finished with three hits, including a double for Dimock/Emery, while Derrick Miller added two hits, including a double and two RBIs.

The Raptors (13-4, 5-2 Sunshine League) play the Sioux Falls Brewers at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Mitchell 18,  Tripp/Delmont 3 (5 innings)

The Mitchell Mad Dogs defeated the Tripp-Delmont Indees in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Chris Housley picked up the win on the mound for Mitchell, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out 11.

Matt Buschbach had four hits, including a triple and seven RBIs for the Mad Dogs. Nick Tadlock added a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs in the win.

The Mad Dogs (7-1, 5-1 Sunshine League) play Alexandria at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cadwell Park.

Corsica/Stickney 12, Mount Vernon 8

CORSICA — The Corsica/Stickney amateur baseball team topped Sunshine League foe Mount Vernon 12-8 Sunday in Corsica.

Steven Blom got the win, going six innings, while Luke Bamberg finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Ryan Hongslo added three singles and two RBIs.

Ryan Buck chipped in with a home run for Corsica/Stickney.

Eric Denning finished with 2-for-4 for Mount Vernon in the loss.

Corsica/Stickney (5-5, 2-4 Sunshine League) plays Mitchell at 8 p.m. Thursday in Corsica.
