Winner coach Dan Aaker said the tough competition of the region meet should help prepare his team for the state tournament.

“No matter what time of year it is, it’s always important to see tough competition,” Aaker said.

The Warriors will have eight of a possible 10 relay teams for its boys and girls teams in the state meet, a goal that Aaker said was important to the teams.

“That was our main goal for the day,” Aaker said. “It will give a lot of our kids the opportunity to go out there and compete.”

Nate Galbraith in the 400-meter dash and Coleton Schuyler in the 800-meter run had been close to prequalifying in those events prior to the region meet, according to Aaker. Both took first place for a spot in the state meet.

On the girls side, Chloe Bartels continued her strong season for Winner. The freshman finished first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Katie Mathis won the 100-meter hurdles for the Warriors with a time of 16.43 seconds.

Chamberlain finished second on the girls side (125) and the boys took fourth (85).

Kylie Bertram won the 100-meter dash for the Cubs in a time of 14.01 seconds, while Sierra Kenobbie and Avany Long took first and second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Mobridge-Pollock won the girls team title with 177 points.

Winner and Chamberlain qualifiers will compete at the Class A state meet starting May 30.
