STORM LAKE, Iowa — Six Dakota Wesleyan University athletes recorded personal bests Saturday at the Dennis Young Invite.

Brenna Martin took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 6.5 inches, the eighth-best mark in school history. She also finished 11th in the weight throw and had the fourth-best mark in school history with a toss of 42-feet-8.75.

Skylar Forgey and Jessica Neises placed sixth and third in the 600-meter dash with times of 1 minute, 45.32 seconds and 1:48.83.

Haley Brunke had the fourth-best time in DWU history in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:32.54.

Daniel Porter took third in the triple jump with a mark of 42-feet-3.25, while Kellan Willet was eighth in the mile in 4:42.37.

The Tigers travel to compete in the Dordt College Invite Saturday.

SDABA reappoints officers at annual meeting in Feb.

Officials were reappointed at the annual South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association meeting over the weekend.

Dale Weber, of Salem, was re-elected president and Kurt Permann, of Redfield; Randy Sabers, of Salem; and Ted Poncelet, of Sioux Falls, were reappointed as commissioners.

Mitchell will host the state amateur tournament on Aug. 6-17 at Cadwell Park. The 25th anniversary teams that will be honored at the tournament are Sioux Falls Shop’n Cart and Dell Rapids Blue Ribbon.

SDSU’s Witzmann selected for College All Star Bowl

BROOKINGS — Former South Dakota State University football player Bryan Witzmann has been selected to play in the College All Star Bowl later this week.

The left tackle earned All-America honors in his final two season with the Jackrabbits. He is playing on the Nationals team and the game is 5 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to be televised on CBS Sports Network. The game is at Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C.

SDASA scholarship deadline nearing

The deadline to apply for the South Dakota Amateur Softball Association scholarship is March 1.

Any senior who has played and/or umpired ASA softball for a minimum of three years are encouraged to apply.

Mitchell-Huron subvarsity games at two locations

The subvarsity games for the Mitchell vs. Huron basketball doubleheader will be held at two locations today in Huron.

The JV boys begin at 3:30 p.m. and the sophomore boys start at 5 p.m. at the Huron Arena. The girls’ and boys’ varsity games will follow at the arena.

The freshman boys’ and girls’ games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the middle school.
