Area high school volleyball 10/15/13: Red Raiders fall in five sets

WAGNER — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton volleyball team edged Wagner in five sets to earn its 16th win of the season.

Set scores were 25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Makaela Karst recorded 13 kills, Dani Stolz had 11 kills and Mikayla Weiss recorded 29 assists for the Titans.

Wagner’s Ali Kuca had 13 kills and five blocks, while Kim Koupal had 12 kills and 30 digs for a double-double. Brooklyn Tolliver had 22 digs and Kayla Dermeier added 34 assists.

Wagner (16-5) plays at Parkston today, while the Titans (15-2) host Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Plankinton.

Mitchell Christian 3, Hendricks, Minn. 0 Emily Schrag had 11 assists and 10 aces to help lift Mitchell Christian to its eighth win of the season over Hendricks, Minn., 3-0 Monday.

Set scores were 25-3, 25-8, 25-7.

Ashley Schmit, Cassidy Graham and Emily Reynen each had three kills in the win. Ellie Bleeker added eight aces and six digs.

Haily Teske recorded 16 digs in the loss.

Mitchell Christian (8-10) hosts Dakota Christian Thursday.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Colman-Egan 0 BRIDGEWATER — Justine Dye led all players with 12 kills and led Bridgewater-Emery to a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 win over Colman-Egan Monday in high school volleyball action.

Aly Hanssen added 16 assists and 10 digs, Chesney Arend recorded 19 digs and two aces and Tiana Kayser had eight kills and three assists for the Huskies.

Colman-Egan was led by Zoey Neises with 18 digs.

The Huskies (13-8) host Andes Central Oct. 22 in Emery.

Burke/South Central 3, Dakota Christian 1

NEW HOLLAND — Grace Hazen recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs in Burke/South Central’s four-set victory over Dakota Christian Monday in a high school volleyball match.

Shailyn Schweigert recorded 23 assists, five digs and three aces for the Cougars, while Sydney Benter had 14 digs and two aces.

Dakota Christian’s Abbi BaanHofman led all players with 15 kills and 11 blocks. She also had 12 digs and three aces in the loss. Rheanna Pfeifer added 15 digs, while Germaine Niewenhus recorded 11 digs and 15 assists.

Burke/South Central (4-15) plays Andes Central today in Lake Andes, while Dakota Christian (3-16) plays at Mitchell Christian Thursday.

Miller 3, Kimball/White Lake 1

MILLER — Kimball/White Lake fell to Miller 25-14, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21 Monday in high school volleyball action.

Haley Pazour recorded 10 kills and seven digs for the WiLdKats. Brooklyn Donald had eight kills and one block, Mary Kroupa tallied 26 assists and eight digs and Emily Sinclair had 10 digs. Jazmyn Hinker added six kills and seven digs in the win.

Kimball/White Lake (12-7) on the JV match and plays Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Woonsocket.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Canistota 1

CANISTOTA — Danielle Hansen had a match-high 17 kills to lead McCook Central/Montrose over Canistota in four sets Monday.

Set scores were 27-25, 25-21, 30-32, 25-20.

Nicole Roth had 11 kills and 10 digs for a double-double and added two blocks in the win. Laura Klaudt recorded 41 assists, 20 digs, three aces and three blocks, while C.J. Ristesund tallied 10 kills and 16 digs for a double-double.

For Canistota, Chloe Nielsen had nine kills, Sydney Randall added 14 digs, Breanna Buseman recorded eight kills and five blocks and Morgan Larson had 22 assists.

The Fighting Cougars (8-12) won the JV match and play at Garretson today, while Canistota (5-13) plays at Freeman today.

Platte-Geddes 3, Corsica/Stickney 0

CORSICA — The Platte-Geddes volleyball team defeated Corsica/Stickney 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 Monday.

Platte-Geddes’ Josie DeGroot led all players with 12 kills and added three aces and four blocks. Madi Whalen had 12 assists and five kills, while Brianna Erickson tallied 13 digs.

Rachel Milligan had 20 assists and seven digs, while Jackie Dethlefsen recorded 10 kills and two blocks in the loss. Brianna Kuyper recorded a team-high nine digs.

The Black Panthers (8-9) host Miller today, while the Jaguars (4-13) play Bon Homme Thursday in Tyndall.
