Dion, Heisinger win at XC meet

PARKSTON — Ethan/ Parkston’s Taya Heisinger and Wagner’s Nick Dion each finished first at the Ethan/Parkston cross country meet Thursday.

Dion won the boys’ 5K race with a time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds, while Heisinger won the girls’ 4K race with a time of 15:26.

Both the Ethan/ Parkston boys’ and girls’ teams finished atop the team standings Thursday.

DWU women 5th, men ninth in GPAC preseason basketball polls

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference coaches poll, which was released Thursday.

The Tiger women are coming off their best season in nearly a decade, finishing 20-11 overall and 11-9 in the GPAC.

The DWU men were slotted ninth by the coaches after a 14-17 overall record and 9-11 finish in the GPAC last season.

The women start their season Nov. 1 at the Doane Classic in Crete, Neb.

The men get under way with an exhibition game against South Dakota State University Nov. 1 in Brookings
