Tonight is Booster Club night at the Mitchell High School volleyball match. The match between the Kernels and Yankton Gazelles begins at 7 p.m. at the high school.

DWU’s Fitts named GPAC golfer of the week for third week

For the third straight week, Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golfer Lauren Fitts has been named golfer of the week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, it was announced Wednesday.

Fitts shares the honor with Amy Ahlers of Concordia University.

Fitts, a Brookings native, finished tied for first place with Ahlers at the second GPAC qualifier after shooting an 80. Fitts shot a 37 on the front nine and a 43 on the back. She now sits second overall in the GPAC standings behind teammate Chelsea Burback.

DWU volleyball falls to Dordt in 3 sets

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Dordt College in three sets Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-10, 25-22, 25-12.

Sarah Kruse and Taylor Spence each had six kills to lead the way for the Tigers. Maggie Stehly added 14 digs, while Briana Jung had 13 assists and four digs.

The Tigers (6-18) hosts Morningside College at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Tiger women lose to Morningside 7-1

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Morningside 7-1 Wednesday at Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

The Tiger’s lone goal came from Thara Ali Said on a penalty kick in the first half.

Morningside scored the game’s first three goals and its last four goals.

Wesleyan (4-7-1) plays Northwestern College Saturday on the road in Orange City, Iowa.

Wesleyan men beat Morningside 1-0

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer beat Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Morningside College 1-0 to earn its seventh win of the season Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

The game went to halftime tied at 0. But Mike Haight found Trent Robbins, who netted the game’s only goal in the second half.

DWU goalkeeper Alex Nelson also had nine saves.

The Tigers (7-3-2) play Northwestern College Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.
