Area high school volleyball 10/9/13: WiLdKats top Chamberlain

KIMBALL — Mary Kroupa led all players with 25 assists and added eight digs and five aces in Kimball/White Lake’s 3-0 win over Chamberlain Tuesday in high school volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-9, 25-9.

Jazmyn Hinker had 11 digs and five kills, Haley Pazour recorded nine kills and one block and Ivy Haines tallied nine kills and five digs in the win. Brooklyn Donald had eight kills and three digs for the WiLdKats.

Chamberlain’s Shelby Schindler had six kills, while Irene Grassrope had five assists. Sarah Knust added seven digs and Brigitte Byrd chipped in with two aces for the Cubs.

Kimball/White Lake (10-6) won the JV game 2-0 and plays Parkston Thursday in Parkston, while Chamberlain (4-11) hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton Thursday.

Wagner 3, Scotland 0

WAGNER — Wagner earned its 15th win of the season after beating Scotland 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 Tuesday in a high school volleyball match.

Ali Kuca recorded four aces and eight kills, while Kim Koupal and Gina Soukup had nine kills apiece in the win. Kayla Deurmeier and Krista Dvorak had 16 and 14 assists, respectively.

Amber Alvey had 13 assists and three aces for Scotland. Carley Skorepa posted a match-high 11 kills.

Wagner (15-4) plays Alcester-Hudson in the Chester Challenge Saturday. Scotland (5-8) hosts Parker Thursday.

Bon Homme 3, Dakota Christian 0

TYNDALL — Caitlin McLouth had a match-high 11 kills and had two blocks to lead Bon Homme over Dakota Christian 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 Tuesday.

Kelsey Sutera recorded a match-high 13 digs, two aces and six kills for the Cavaliers. Emily Pechous added 12 digs and three aces, while Alie Adams tallied 29 assists and two aces in the win.

Abbi BaanHofman had seven kills and four blocks for the Cadets. Brooklyn Vander Pol recorded nine digs, six kills and two blocks and Germaine Niewenhuis added seven digs and seven assists.

Bon Homme (13-5) won the JV match and hosts Freeman Thursday, while Dakota Christian (3-14) hosts Burke/South Central Monday in New Holland.

Parkston 3, Platte-Geddes 0

PARKSTON — The Parkston Trojans beat Platte-Geddes in 25-12, 25-18, 25-15 Tuesday.

Parkston was led by Laura Weiss, who recorded 12 kills and eight digs. Whitney Weber added three aces and 28 assists, while Sadie Schoenfelder had six kills and 10 digs and Halli Heisinger had nine kills.

Josie DeGroot led Platte-Geddes, recording seven kills and two aces. Shelby Johnson chipped in with 10 digs and four kills, while Madi Whalen had five kills, 12 assists and nine digs.

Parkston (13-5) plays Kimball/White Lake in Parkston Thursday. Platte-Geddes (6-9) plays Gregory Thursday in Gregory.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Howard 0

HOWARD — The McCook Central/ Montrose Fighting Cougars beat Howard in 25-13, 25-19, 25-15 Tuesday.

C.J. Ristesund recorded 11 kills, nine digs and three aces to lead the way for MCM. Laura Klaudt chipped in with 29 assists, four digs and one block. Danielle Hansen added eight kills and one block and Brianna Painter had four aces and 16 digs.

Howard was led by Taylor Noid. Noid had two aces, two kills and five digs. Shelby Thompson added six assists and one kill, while Kelsey Dawson had two kills.

MCM (7-11) plays West Central Thursday in Harford, while Howard (3-13) plays Marion Thursday in Marion.

Andes Central 3, Freeman 1

FREEMAN — Payton Johanneson had 18 kills and 25 digs for a double-double in Andes Central’s 3-1 win over Freeman Tuesday in high school volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 25-13.

Johanneson also had five aces and one block in the win. Emily Houseman had 21 assists and nine digs, while DiMera Dvorak added 23 digs and JoMarie Garcia had a match-high six aces and four kills.

Shelby Jensen had a team-high 10 kills, four digs and three aces for Freeman. Mady Pravecek led all players with 22 assists, four digs and one ace, while Erika Sage had 14 digs.

Andes Central (8-8) won the C match and plays Irene-Wakonda in the Chester Challenge Saturday, while Freeman (2-10) won the JV match and plays Bon Homme Thursday in Tyndall.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 0

FORESTBURG — Marissa Weber recorded five aces, 10 kills and 12 digs in Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s straight sets win over Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-14, 26-24.

Rachel Selland had 20 assists, while Morgan Selland added 10 kills and nine digs in the win.

Tricia Wilken led Sunshine Bible with 10 kills, three aces and two blocks.

The Blackhawks (12-6) won the JV match and host Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday in Woonsocket. Sunshine Bible (8-10) plays at Iroquois Thursday.

Marion 3, Menno 0

MARION — Marion defeated Menno 25-21, 25-18, 25-8 Tuesday for its 12th win of the season.

Erica Schoenwald recorded 16 kills and 10 digs for a double-double while adding four blocks and one ace in the win. Devin Nelson tallied 21 digs, eight kills and three aces and Renae Kayser posted a match-high 19 assists.

For Menno, Madison Huber had 13 digs, four assists and three aces. Abby Herrboldt had four kills, nine digs and two aces, while Christina Herrboldt tallied 10 digs and two aces.

Marion (12-6) won the JV match and hosts Howard Thursday, while Menno (2-14) plays Gayville-Volin and Irene-Wakonda Thursday in Gayville.

Ethan 3, Wessington Springs 2

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Darbi Gustafson recorded 23 kills, 21 digs and two blocks to help Ethan secure a 3-2 victory over Wessington Springs Tuesday.

Set scores were 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 15-8.

Rachel Hawkins had six aces for the Rustlers, while Holley Lindeman had 41 assists. Morgan Tuttle added 15 kills and Kacey Bartscher had 29 digs.

Sheyanne Brodkorb led the way for Wessington Springs. Brodkorb recorded five aces, eight kills and 10 digs. Shyanne Kopfman added eight kills and nine digs, while Devin Tebay had six blocks and Lexi Olinger had 18 assists.

Ethan (16-4) plays at Canistota Thursday, while Wessington Springs (5-13) won the JV match and plays Highmore-Harrold Thursday in Highmore.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Canistota 1

BRIDGEWATER — Justine Dye had 16 kills, 10 digs and two blocks to help Bridgewater-Emery beat Canistota in four sets.

Set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 28-26, 25-21.

Chesney Arend added 28 digs and four aces for the Huskies. Tiana Kayser had eight kills and three blocks, while Aly Hanssen had 19 assists, six digs and two aces.

Canistota was led by Jenny Hofer. Hofer recorded 12 kills and three blocks. Brianna Buseman had nine kills, four blocks and three aces for the Hawks. Morgan Larson added 20 assists and five digs.

Bridgewater-Emery won the JV match.

Bridgewater-Emery (11-8) hosts Avon Thursday in Avon, while Canistota (5-12) plays Ethan Thursday in Canistota.

Winner 3, Gregory 0

WINNER — The Winner Warriors beat Gregory in three sets Tuesday to earn their 18th win of the season.

Set scores were 25-6, 25-7, 25-16.

Cassidy Hanson led the way for Winner, recording nine kills, eight digs, one ace and one block. Lindsey Calhoon chipped in with 14 digs and eight kills.Kelsey Bertram added four kills, five assists and 14 digs, while Sara Husher had 18 assists, six digs, five aces and three kills.

Gregory was led by Courtney Opbroek. Opbroek recorded five kills. Brett Steffen added 15 assists for the Gorillas, while Codi Horst had 20 digs.

Winner (18-2) hosts White River Thursday, while Gregory (8-9) hosts Platte-Geddes Thursday.

Lyman 3, Kadoka 1

PRESHO — Sara Herman had 28 digs in Lyman’s 25-22, 19-25, 25-9, 25-18 victory Kadoka Tuesday.

Anna Flitner had 17 kills, four aces and 26 digs in the win. Jessica Welter tallied 10 kills, two aces and five blocks, Bailey Almond added 22 assists and Carly Uthe posted 18 digs.

Lyman (18-6) hosts Kimball/White Lake Saturday in Presho.

Avon 3, Burke/South Central 0

BONESTEEL — The Avon Pirates beat Burke/South Central 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 Tuesday.

Ariana Oorlog recorded 12 kills, four blocks and four digs lead the way for Avon. Chesney Nagel added 10 kills, five digs, one ace and one block. Hanna Powers chipped in with 15 assists, four digs and two aces, while Heidi Cap had five kills, three blocks and one dig.

No stats were reported for Burke/South Central despite attempts to reach coaches.

Avon (9-9) plays Bridgewater-Emery Thursday in Emery, while Burke/South Central (3-13) won the JV match and plays Corsica/Stickney Thursday in Corsica.
