Area high school volleyball roundup 9/17/13: Howard tops Menno in 3

MENNO — Shelby Thompsen had 11 kills, 26 assists and two aces to lift Howard over Menno 28-26, 29-27, 25-18 in high school volleyball action Monday.

Taylor Noid had 15 kills, four digs and three aces, while Jessica Cavigielli recorded 11 kills, two blocks and two aces in the win.

For Menno (0-5), Abby Herrboldt had six kills, seven digs, three assists and one ace. Emily Massey had a game-high 14 digs.

Howard (1-6) plays Chester Area today in Chester, while Menno, which won the JV match, plays McCook Central/Montrose Thursday in Salem.

Marion 3, Dell Rapids St. Mary 0

MARION — Erica Schoenwald recorded 12 kills, 11 digs and one ace in Marion’s 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Dell Rapids St. Mary Monday.

Devin Nelson had nine kills, 13 digs and three aces in the win. Kaitlyn Engbrecht added 18 assists, 12 digs and seven aces.

Marion (6-2) won the JV match and plays Hanson today in Alexandria.

Ethan 3, Dakota Christian 0

NEW HOLLAND — The Ethan volleyball team defeated Dakota Christian 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 Monday.

Anna Mueller had 14 kills and three blocks, Holley Lindeman recorded 25 assists and Dannika Pollreisz added a game-high 13 assists for the Rustlers.

Kennedy Muckey had six kills, five blocks, three digs and three aces in the loss. Germaine Niewenhuis had 12 assists.

Ethan (8-3) hosts Corsica/Stickney Thursday, while the Cadets (2-4) play at Gregory today.

Scotland 3, Freeman 1

SCOTLAND — The Scotland volleyball team defeated Freeman 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-14 Monday.

Carley Skorepa had 14 kills, Kayla Rokusek recorded seven kills and Amber Alvey added 25 assists in the win.

No stats were reported for Freeman.

Scotland (3-1) plays Andes Central today in Lake Andes. Freeman (1-3) plays Bridgewater-Emery today in Bridgewater.

Lyman 3, Burke/South Central 0

PRESHO — Lyman topped Burke/South Central 25-17, 25-13, 25-7 Monday in a high school volleyball match.

Anna Flitner had 15 kills, Jessica Welter had six and Bailey Lulf had four kills in the win.

No stats were reported for Burke/South Central.

Lyman plays at Winner today, while the Cougars (1-7) play Boyd County, Neb., Thursday.

Lyman 2, Phillip 1

PHILIP — The Lyman volleyball team took third at the Philip tournament Saturday, beating Phillip in the third-place match 25-20, 25-13.

Lyman went 3-2 in the tournament and Anna Flitner led with 62 kills, 76 digs and nine blocks in the tournament. Bailey Almond had 54 assists and Sara Herman recorded 72 digs.
