Bertram signs with Presentation men

Chamberlain senior Skyler Bertram signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Presentation College for the 2014-15 season.

Bertram is a two-time all-SESD Conference player and all-Big Dakota Conference player. As a junior, Bertram averaged 15 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Rew earns scholar All-American honors

Mitchell native Amelia Rew was named scholar All-American honors, which was announced Monday by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches.

Rew, a senior, is a Barrett Honors College student in bioscience and will graduate in December. She earned the honor with a 3.65 grade point average.

To be eligible for the honor, a student must earn a GPA of 3.5 or above during the 2012-13 academic year.

Jark makes Classic all-tourney team

Dakota Wesleyan volleyball player Mallory Jark was named to the DWU Corn Palace Classic all-tournament team Wednesday.

The Tigers went 2-2 in the tournament over the weekend and Jark recorded 50 kills in four games.

Talia Peters named GPAC golfer of week

Dakota Wesleyan women’s golfer Talia Peters was named the first Great Plains Athletic Conference golfer of the week, which was announced Wednesday by the league.

Peters, a Wagner native, tied for ninth at the Mount Mercy Invitational over the weekend. She shot a 91 in the first round and a field-low 74 in the second for a total of 165.

DWU took fourth in the 19-team event and is back in action Saturday at the Augustana Invite at Bakker Crossing in Sioux Falls.

Lyman volleyball team wins 3-1

WHITE RIVER — The Lyman volleyball team defeated White River 25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-12 Tuesday.

Anna Flitner had 11 kills, 11 digs and five aces, while Jessica Welter had nine kills and three blocks. Hanna Thiry had 16 assists and Bailey Almond recorded four aces and 11 assists.

Lyman (1-0) hosts Gregory today in Presho.

De Smet tops Howard in four sets

HOWARD — Kelsey Poppen had 11 kills and five blocks to lead the De Smet volleyball team over Howard in four sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-10.

Eve Dobson added 15 assists in the win. For Howard, Taylor Noid had six kills, six digs and three aces.

Howard (0-1) plays at Freeman today, while De Smet (1-0) plays Deubrook Area today in White.

MHS to hold weight room open house

Mitchell High School is holding an open house and dinner for those who contributed to the renovations of the school’s weight room Friday.

The open house and tailgate party begin at 5:30 p.m. at the high school and Joe Quintal Field. The events will continue until kickoff of the Kernel football team’s home opener against Harrisburg at 7 p.m.

There is a public open house of the weight room after the game ends.
