Golf tourney raises money for hospital

The 19th annual “Caring for Kids” golf tournament raised more than $21,000 Saturday.

The tournament, which is sponsored by the Avera Queen of Peace Foundation, had 144 participants and was held at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. The proceeds will be used for an upgrade to the HUGS security system, which protects against infant abduction, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

The tournament winners are listed at left.

DWU soccer teams picked 9th in preseason poll

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s and men’s soccer teams were picked ninth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ polls, which were released Tuesday.

The Tiger women received 28 points in the poll, which was voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches. Last season, the DWU women were 2-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the GPAC.

The men’s team received 26 points and was 6-11-2 overall and 3-5-2 last season.

Hastings College was picked to win the conference in both the men’s and women’s sides.

Kuehl signs with DWU women

Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball coach Jason Christensen added Madison Kuehl to his roster for the 2014-15 school year, it was announced Tuesday.

Kuehl, who plays for West Central but is a Hartford native, is the Tigers’ third recruit for that season. As a junior, she averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game.
