RAPID CITY -- The Mitchell Unleashed 12-and-under team won its first state championship at the South Dakota State 12U B Fastpitch Tournament over the weekend in Rapid City.

Unleashed went 6-1 in the tournament, shutting out the Rapid City Sizzle 15-0 Sunday for the title. Mitchell scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Unleashed played the Sizzle three times during the three-day, double-elimination tournament. After beating the Sizzle in the first game of the tournament, Rapid City won eight straight games to reach the championship.

The Sizzle defeated Mitchell in the first game of the championship 7-4 but Mitchell bounced back to win 15-0 in the second game.

Over the weekend, Tori Misiaszek went 5-1 on the mound and Tess Limberg went 1-0 for Mitchell. Misiaszek gave up 19 hits and struck out 35 in six games.

Offensively, Misiaszek batted .643 in the tournament, Makenzie Miller was .615, Mandy Schmidt was .471 and Beckah Williams was .368. As a team, Unleashed was .358 in the tournament.

Coach Jim Misiaszek said the team has come close to winning tournaments several times this season and has fell short.

"It was good for these girls to finally get one," he said. "After we lost the first championship game, our girls responded, picked up some energy and laid it all on the line. They had some fun and jumped on them early and often."

Mitchell Unleashed finished their season 30-12-1.
