Mitchell man arrested for suffocating woman to death

3-on-3 brings competitive, fun atmosphere to tournament

Blarney's Sports Bar and Grill will be hosting its fifth annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament Saturday.

The most teams the tournament has hosted was 34 and has had as few as 16 teams other years. The players vary from grade school kids to adults. Blarney's Manager Scott Morgan expected up to 25 teams to play in the event this year.

Three Dakota Wesleyan University basketball players joined to create a team for the tournament.

"We like to be in a different atmosphere," DWU forward and Corsica native Luke Bamberg said. "It's nice playing a different feel rather than group organized basketball."

Morgan said the tournament was meant to take the place of the former 3-on-3 tournament, which was held on Main Street.

"It went away and it was a fun event," he said. "This may not be as big as it was downtown, but people enjoy playing in it."

Despite a relaxed, fun atmosphere, Morgan and Bamberg think the tournament will still be competitive between teams.

"No matter the competition, everybody likes to win," Morgan said.

The tournament will host local and area teams, along with groups from Sioux Falls, Pierre and Iowa. The fifth annual 3-on-3 event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and will conclude around 6 p.m.
