Court-Menendez takes 7th at USA outdoor track championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Dakota Wesleyan University freshman Nicole Court-Menendez finished seventh in the women's junior 10,000-meter race walk at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Court-Menendez recorded a time of 59 minutes, 29.37 seconds. Molly Josephs, of Missouri Baptist, won the race with a time of 54:18.27.

The event lasted from Thursday to Sunday.

Avon tops Scotland in amateur game

SCOTLAND -- Nate Harrington threw all nine innings as Avon defeated Scotland 13-5 in an amateur baseball game Sunday.

Harrington gave up 14 hits and struck out seven in the win.

Paul Plant started for Scotland, giving up nine hits while striking out one and walking three in four innings. Mike Kronazil also pitched, giving up nine hits in five innings. He had four strikeouts.

Jeff Haenfler led Avon offensively with three hits and four RBIs, including two doubles. Jesse Hajek had three hits with one double, Dan Bures had three hits with two doubles and Nick Honke recorded two hits with one double and four RBIs. Jeff Sand had two hits with a double and two RBIs.

Kronazil had three singles, Joe Kronazil had three singles and an RBI and Mike Pietz had a double in the loss.

Corsica Legion team beats McCook/Miner

The Corsica Legion baseball team topped McCook/Miner 15-5 Monday.

Corsica recorded 18 hits to McCook/Miner's three.

Aaron Groeneweg started on the mound for Corsica. He allowed one run and struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Groeneweg had two hits with three RBIs in the win. Nick Blom had two hits with three runs scored.

Marshall Miller had two hits for McCook/Miner.
