Mitchell Black splits games at Yankton tourney

YANKTON -- The Mitchell Black teener baseball team split a pair of games Friday at a tournament in Yankton.

Mitchell defeated Sioux Falls Central 12-0 in three innings in the first game before falling to Vermillion 10-2 in the second game.

Against Sioux Falls Central, Baley Miller was the winning pitcher. He allowed one hit in three innings of work.

Offensively, Spencer Neugebauer had two hits, Bryce Geraets had three hits and Matt Muth added a double. Mitchell Black led 5-0 in the second and then scored seven in the third inning to pull away.

Sam Michels took the loss in the second game, throwing two innings, allowing seven hits and two strikeouts. Ryland DeVries came in relief, throwing the final four innings. He allowed four hits and three runs.

At the plate, Jed Schmidt had a double and a single, and Neugebauer had a double.

Mitchell Black (5-5) is back in action today at the Yankton tournament.

South Central tops Chamberlain in Legion game

BURKE -- The South Central Legion baseball team defeated Chamberlain Post 3 13-6 Wednesday.

South Central scored in three innings -- including an eight-run inning in the fourth -- and Chamberlain scored all six runs in the sixth inning.

Sam Tyrell took the loss on the mound for Post 3, giving up eight runs on four hits in three innings. Tyrell had four strikeouts and walked seven.

Chris Schwartz had two hits and two RBIs and Hudson Priebe had one hit and two stolen bases. Tyrell, Tyson Fleury and Davis Carson each had an RBI for Chamberlain.

Post 3 had six hits and made seven errors.
