OSU's Way earns academic honor

Oklahoma State University thrower Caitlin Way was named a District 7 Capital One men's and women's track and field/cross country first-team academic All-American, it was announced Tuesday.

To qualify, an athlete had to have a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and have legitimate athletic credentials.

The Mitchell native carries a cumulative 4.0 GPA and is majoring in physiology-premedicine/preprofessional. Way was a first-team all-Big 12 performer in both indoor and outdoor track and field.

Solberg helps Morningside break tennis records

Mitchell native Megan Solberg broke three Morningside College women's tennis records this season.

The sophomore holds the record for combined wins in a season, winning 15 matches at Flight 6 singles and 18 at Flight 3 doubles. She holds two doubles records with partner Audri Swisher, a Spearfish native.

They won 18 matches to beat the previous record of 15 wins in a season and also combined for an .833 winning percentage, topping a standard of .818 set in 1997.

Lawn bowling included in Demo Day

The lawn bowling green will be available for people of all ages to learn about the activity during Lakeview Golf Course's Demo Day, which is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and June 15.

All equipment will be provided at the bowling green and players can play with bowls sized to fit their hands. Participants must wear flat-bottom shoes as well.
