It was a dominant showing for the Parkston girls' golf team Tuesday at the first-ever Parkston Girls' Golf Classic.

The Trojans took the team title with a score of 316, Parkston's Jordan and Sydney Bormann finished second and third and teammate Sydney Weber took fourth individually.

In winning the tournament, Parkston defeated a group of highly talented teams, including Class AA 2012 runner-up Pierre, which had the top individual golfer in Hallie Getz, who shot a 74.

Sioux Falls Christian, which took fourth at last year's Class A state tournament, took third Tuesday. Parkston also beat Class AA's Sioux Falls Lincoln, which was a fourth-place state tournament team last year. Lincoln finished fourth in the team standings.

In total, five Parkston golfers finished in the top 15 individually.

"We wanted to shoot better than we did Friday," Parkston golf coach Tyler Hockett said, referring to his team's performance at the Mitchell Invitational. "We shot 317 on Friday. (Today) we shot 316, so we did improve and the girls played well. I even think we left some strokes out there."

Mitchell finished in fifth place with a team score of 363. Kristin Sabers and Macy Miller were Mitchell's top finishers. Sabers shot an 86 and finished 12th, while Miller shot an 87 and finished 14th.

"The last time we played Lakeview as a team we shot 379, so our goal for our team was to shoot better, which we did, by 16 strokes," Mitchell golf coach Rob Marchand said. "We are really pleased with the girls and we are getting a lot of improvement from our fourth and fifth players, and that is really encouraging."

Both Bormann golfers finished with scores of 76, which was two strokes behind tournament winner Getz, who is the reigning Class AA state champion. Although Jordan and Sydney finished with the same score, Jordan finished higher in the standings because she had the better score on the handicap hole.

"It's always fun playing with my sister," Jordan Bormann said. "She is probably one of the biggest competitors to play against so it was a fun day."

The two sisters competed against each other in the first group along with Getz and Sabers.

Last season Sydney Bormann, who was then in the eighth grade, won the Class A state tournament and Jordan finished in fifth place.

So far this season, the sisters' scores have seemed to be close regularly. At the Mitchell Invitational Friday, Jordan shot a 76 and Sydney shot a 79.

Tuesday at the Parkston Invitational, Sydney got off to a rough start on the first hole by driving her ball into the water. The freshman said the wind may have played a factor on the opening hole.

"You have to learn how to play with the wind, because it does affect your ball quite a bit and there are some holes where it made a difference, but you just have to learn how to play it," she said.

Despite wind, overcast skies and a two-and-a-half-week postponement, the inaugural Parkston Girls' Golf Classic went on Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell without a hitch.

Thirty-one girls' high school golfers played the 18 hole course after waiting almost three weeks to participate in the event.

On April 10, it was announced that the first-ever Parkston Girls' Golf Classic was postponed. The invitational was originally scheduled for April 12, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

"We hope to build from this year and have more teams next year, and hopefully have Mother Nature on our side next year," Hockett said. "We just want to build this into a real nice event. We love playing at Lakeview."

Nine teams were originally expected to compete in the invitational, but due to scheduling conflicts Yankton, Aberdeen Central, Sioux Falls O'Gorman and Spearfish did not make to the rescheduled invitational Tuesday.
