Area high school basketball roundup 2/1/13: South Central girls beat Cadets

BURKE -- South Central's Chloe Kenzy had 11 points to lead the Cougars past Dakota Christian 40-34 in a high school girls' basketball game Thursday.

Ashley Green had nine points and seven rebounds and Whitney Hutchison added eight points and seven rebounds for the Cougars, who were 12-of-53 from the field for 23 percent and 16-of-24 from the foul line for 67 percent.

The Cadets were led by Brooklyn Vander Pol, who scored a team-best 11 points. Amber Baan Hofman recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Dakota Christian was 13-of-43 from the field for 40 percent and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line for 34 percent.

South Central won the JV game 31-22.

South Central (9-9) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton Feb. 8 in Bonesteel, while Dakota Christian hosts Ethan Monday in New Holland.

Wagner 54, Andes Central 37

WAGNER -- The Wagner girls' basketball team had three players score in double figures as it went on to beat Andes Central 54-37 Thursday in Wagner.

Wagner's Ali Kuca recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Jessa Doome led all players with 16 points and Gina Soukup scored 12 points for the Red Raiders, who were 19-of-58 from the field, 13-of-18 from the foul line and had 12 turnovers. Wagner outrebounded the Eagles 30-28.

Andes Central was led by Krista Winckler with 10 points. Kellie Winckler brought down a team-best 10 rebounds and Jo Marie Garcia grabbed nine. The Eagles were 17-of-44 from the field, 2-of-5 from the free-throw line and committed 22 turnovers.

Wagner (12-4) plays McCook Central/Montrose Saturday, while Andes Central (6-7) plays Scotland Saturday.

Boys' basketball

South Central 58, Marty Indian 34

MARTY -- Tyler Frank and Sam Hazen each recorded double-doubles to lead South Central past Marty Indian 58-34 in a high school boys' basketball game Thursday.

Frank had 15 points and a game-high 21 rebounds and Hazen recorded a team-best 16 points and 12 rebounds. Garrett Bruns recorded five assists for the Cougars, who were 12-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Colt Salcedo and Leon Jumping Elk each scored eight points for the Braves, who were 1-of-3 from the foul line.

South Central (14-1) plays Bon Homme Tuesday in Tyndall, while Marty Indian (6-6) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Tripp.

Wagner 60, Andes Central 41

WAGNER -- Two Wagner boys' basketball players recorded double-doubles to help the Red Raiders defeat Andes Central 60-41 in a high school boys' basketball game Thursday.

Noah St. Pierre led all scorers with 17 points and was second on the team in rebounds with 11. Will Hollmann was Wagner's second leading scorer with 13 points and its top rebounder with 12. Spencer Peters added 12 points and Chris Kuca chipped in with 11.

Andes Central was led by Gabe Cournoyer, who finished with 12 points. Madison Dion added 11.

Wagner (7-7) takes on McCook Central/Montrose Saturday in Wagner. Andes Central (4-8) plays Scotland Saturday in Lake Andes.
