DWU's Gonzalez picked GPAC player of the week

Dakota Wesleyan University's Hugo Gonzalez was chosen as the Hauff Mid-America/GPAC Co-Player of the Week for his performance against Hastings College and Doane College last week.

Gonzalez shared the honor with Doane goalkeeper Casey Clark.

Gonzalez helped lead the Tigers to two wins last week. He scored a goal against Northwestern to tie the game at 1, and scored the first goal of the game against Doane.

Gonzalez led DWU with eight goals on the season.

DWU volleyball falls to Briar Cliff

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team lost to Briar Cliff University in straight sets in its final home match of the season Tuesday in Mitchell.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.

With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 6-26 overall and 1-13 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Rachel Tinklenberg led the Tigers with 13 kills and four digs. Danielle Bird recorded eight kills, four digs and one ace. Briana Jung tallied 23 set assists in the loss.

Tiger women lose to Hastings in GPAC tourney

HASTINGS, Neb. -- The No. 8-seeded Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team was shut out by No. 1-seeded Hastings in a Great Plains Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Tuesday.

The Tigers lost 6-0 in the conference tournament. Hastings' Nicole Bernhardt scored two goals in the game.

DWU goalie Kari Durham made 11 saves and gave up six goals. The Tigers had two shots on goal, which were made by Yutzil Rodriguez, to Hastings' 17.
