Cubs looking to knock off top-seeded Dell Rapids

CHAMBERLAIN -- Eighth-seeded Chamberlain will play No. 1-seeded Dell Rapids in a rematch of last year's 11A quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. today in Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids defeated the Cubs 47-0 last season and went on the win the state championship. The Quarriers have won the title the past two years.

Chamberlain head coach John King said his team has to work hard put itself in good field position.

"Last season, we ended up on the short end of the field a lot of the time," King said. "We've got to move the ball some and create good field position for ourselves if we want a shot."

Chamberlain defeated Cheyenne Eagle-Butte 27-0 in the first round of the playoffs to improve to 3-6 overall, while Dell Rapids beat Milbank Area 57-22 in its opening round.

King said it will be important to execute on both sides of the ball.

"We've had to make some adjustments and move personnel around," he said. "They are a very good team and have a lot of experience and depth."

The Cubs are led on the ground by Russell Felicia, who has 560 yards this season. Quarterback Chris Schwartz has led the air attack, completing 17 of 47 passes for 209 yards this season.

Jamie Walters leads the Cubs defensively with 59 tackles and two sacks on the year, while Dalton Andera has tallied 49 tackles and six sacks.
