High School Volleyball Roundup: White Lake battles back to beat Ethan

ETHAN -- After falling in the opening two sets, White Lake battled back to defeat Ethan 3-2 in a highly contested high school volleyball match Friday in Ethan.

Set scores were 13-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-21, 16-14.

Maria Nightingale had 18 kills and 10 blocks in the Wolverines' come-from-behind victory. Jazmyn Hinker tallied six kills and seven digs, Hailey Mohnen had five digs and three aces, Ivy Haines had four blocks and Kimberly Munsen led the team with 33 assists.

Anna Mueller led the Rustlers with 14 kills and three blocks. Morgan Tuttle finished with 10 kills, Rachel Hawkins had eight kills and six digs, Darbi Gustafson had six digs and three blocks and Holley Lindeman finished with 33 assists and three aces.

White Lake improved to 17-6 and takes on Colome Monday in White Lake, while Ethan dropped to 14-8 and takes on Tripp-Delmont/Armour Monday in Tripp.

Marion 3, McCook Central/Montrose 0

MARION -- Marion improved to 22-4 on the season with a 3-0 win over McCook Central/Montrose in high school volleyball action Friday in Marion. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 27-25.

Kylie Hughes led Marion with 15 kills and 13 digs in the match. Katherin Luke had 18 assists and 13 digs, Devin Nelson had 18 assists and 17 digs, Ashley Rosenwald-Muller finished with 12 kills and 10 digs and Kaitlyn Engbrecht finished with 14 digs.

MCM, which won the JV game, was led by Anna Olinger with 11 kills and seven digs. Brianna Painter led the team in digs with 12.

Marion's next contest is against Freeman Monday in Freeman. MCM (8-15) ends its regular season with a match against Hanson Monday in Montrose.

Freeman 3, Centerville 1

FREEMAN -- In a tightly contested match, Freeman High School's volleyball team outlasted Centerville 3-1. Set scores were 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 25-20.

Dina Soulek had 10 kills and 21 digs in the win. Shelby Bauer tallied eight kills and 18 digs, Nicole Hinckley had seven kills, three blocks, nine digs and three aces, Grace Gering had 33 assists and 11 digs and Lexi Graber finished with three blocks and 13 digs.

Gabby Larson recorded 17 assists, nine digs and three aces for Centerville. Brittany Austin had 29 digs and nine aces.

Freeman improved to 8-11 on the year and takes on Marion Monday in Freeman, while Centerville dropped to 4-19. Freeman also won the JV match.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3,

Bridgewater-Emery 0

FORESTBURG -- Marissa Weber recorded 10 kills and six aces to help Sanborn Central/Woonsocket to a 3-0 high school volleyball win over Bridgewater-Emery Friday night in Forestburg.

Set scores were 25-12, 25-22, 27-25.

Rachelle Moore had 22 digs for SC/W, which also won the JV match. Candace Page-Marten had 18 assists and 11 digs, Rachel Selland had eight kills and two blocks, Shelby Selland had five kills and eight assists and Savannah Swenson had six aces in the win.

For Bridgewater-Emery, Mackenzie Schultz had 20 assists, Mallory Haiar had seven kills, Chesney Arend had 18 digs and Justine Dye finished with six kills, one block and five digs.

SC/W improved to 19-5 and takes on Plankinton Monday in Plankinton, while Bridgewater-Emery finished its regular season at 11-13.

Avon 3, Menno 0

MENNO -- Avon defeat Menno in straight sets in high school volleyball action Thursday in Menno. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19, 25-14.

Alyson Roth had eight kills and 11 assists in the win, while Chesney Nagel added eight kills and seven assists. Amanda Reiff led Avon in digs with seven.

Menno's Abby Herrboldt had 12 digs, Brittany Haberman had nine digs, Courtney Schaeffer had six assists and five digs, Kylee Kessler led the team with four kills and Shelby Huber had 11 digs.

Avon, which won the JV match, improved to 13-10 and takes on Gayville-Volin Monday in Avon, while Menno (1-22) faces Scotland Monday in Menno.

Colome 3, Kimball 2

COLOME -- Trailing 2-1, Colome took the last two sets to defeat Kimball 3-2 in high school volleyball action Friday in Colome. Set scores were 25-20, 9-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11.

Becca Moorhead led Colome in the win with 12 kills. Tiffany Hauf had 21 digs and Jessie Pravecek added 19.

Haley Pazour had 17 kills and 18 digs for Kimball in the loss. Pazour, Mary Kroupa and Emily Sinclair all recorded four aces. Kroupa also led the team with 25 assists. Sinclair had 14 digs. Brooklyn Donald had 10 kills.

Colome moved to 3-19 on the year and finishes its regular season against White Lake Monday in White Lake. Kimball (4-17) takes on Dakota Christian Monday in New Holland.

Viborg-Hurley 3, Bon Homme 0

TYNDALL -- Viborg-Hurley won the first set big, then went on to a straight-set victory over Bon Homme in high school volleyball action Friday in Tyndall. Set scores were 25-8, 25-21, 25-22.

Katelyn Graber led Viborg-Hurley with 10 kills.

Alie Adams finished with 13 assists for the Cavaliers. Kelsey Sutera had a team-high five kills and Jody Kriz had 26 digs.

Bon Homme dropped to 12-12 on the season and plays in the South East South Dakota conference tournament today in Tyndall. Viborg-Hurley improved to 19-6 and faces Alcester-Hudson in its next match.

Irene-Wakonda 3, Scotland 2

WAKONDA -- Irene-Wakonda dropped the first and third set but managed to defeat Scotland 3-2 in a high school volleyball match Friday in Wakonda. Set scores were 17-25, 25-19, 10-25, 25-20, 15-8.

Dana Schenk led Irene-Wakonda with nine kills and 12 blocks.

Kennidy Asche had 12 kills, seven blocks and six aces for Scotland. Carley Skorepa finished with 11 kills, seven blocks and 16 digs, Amber Alvey had 26 assists and four aces and Christy Mogck led the team with 30 digs.

Irene-Wakonda improved to 7-13 and takes on Canistota Monday in Canistota, while Scotland dropped to 12-9 and takes on Platte-Geddes today in Tyndall.

Miller 3, Wessington Springs 0

MILLER -- Miller defeated Wessington Springs 3-0 in a high school volleyball match Friday in Miller.

Set scores were 25-9, 25-12, 25-20.

No stats were reported, despite attempts to reach coaches.

Baltic 3, Canistota 2

CANISTOTA -- In a match that came down to the wire, Baltic was able to edge Canistota 3-2 in high school volleyball action Friday in Canistota.

Set scores were 29-27, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14.

Allie Walter led Baltic with 25 kills, eight blocks, six digs and four aces.

Natasha Letcher had 10 kills, 18 digs and three aces in the loss. Brianna Buseman recorded 18 blocks, 13 kills and six aces, Chloe Nielsen had 26 assists, Morgan Larson had 38 digs, Kelsie Rotert had 24 digs and six kills and Sydney Randall finished with 14 digs.

Baltic also won the JV match and improved to 11-11 on the year. Canistota dropped to 6-18 and takes on Irene-Wakonda Monday in Canistota.
