Parks and recreation taking coed volleyball registration forms

Registration for adult coed volleyball league can be picked up at the Mitchell Parks and Recreation Center.

Deadline for registration is Friday. There will be a managers' meeting on Oct. 24 at the recreation center. For more information, contact Kevin DeVries at 995-8450.

Howard's Rumls to guest at QB club

Howard's Pat and Ken Ruml will guest at tonight's Quarterback Club meeting.

The 7:30 p.m. gathering at The Depot in Mitchell will feature football coach Pat Ruml and former wrestling coach Ken Ruml, who was at the Olympics earlier this year with the USA wrestling team.

Wesleyan takes seventh in final fall invitational

SILVIS, Ill. -- Mac Young led the Dakota Wesleyan men's golf team and tied for sixth place at the NAIA Midwest Invitational Tuesday.

The Tigers finished in seventh place with a 624, putting them two strokes behind Huntington Unversity. Ashford University won the tournament with a 594.

Young shot a two-round total of 149 and Austin Hieb was next for DWU with a 24th-place tie with a 154. Travis Johnson tied for 40th with a 158, Josh Korn carded a 163 and tied for 55th and Tyler Burr tied for 59th with a 164.

Marian University's Trey Pfund claimed the individual title with a 138, winning by four strokes.

Morningside defeats DWU 3-1

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Dakota Wesleyan women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Morningside in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday.

The Tigers dropped to 2-7-1 on the season and 2-4-1 in the GPAC. Morningside improved to 7-5-4 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play.

DWU's Yutzil Rodriguez scored the team's only goal to tie the game at 1 in the first half.

Tiger goalie Erika Carpenter made seven saves and Kari Durham made two saves for DWU.

DWU is back in action when it hosts Midland University during its senior day game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell.

USF football team ranked after win

SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- The University of Sioux Falls football team has moved into the AFCA Division II poll after a 31-23 win over Concordia on Saturday.

The Cougars are ranked No. 23 in this week's poll, after moving to 6-1 on the season.

Sioux Falls on Saturday travels to Augustana for the two schools' first meeting on the gridiron in 26 years.

SDSU football to play Gophers in 2015, 2019

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University has lined up another football game against the University of Minnesota in the coming years.

The Jackrabbits will play the Gophers on Sept. 3, 2015, and on Aug. 29, 2019. Both games will be at Minnesota.

The two schools last met on the gridiron in 2009, with Minnesota winning 16-13.

SDSU plays in the Football Championship Subdivision. It now has five games lined up in future years against Football Bowl Subdivision teams: at Nebraska next year, at Missouri in 2014, at Iowa State in 2018, and the two Minnesota games.
